Nelson Mandela Avenue is actually one of the better streets to stay on if you’re trying to get a feel for the city. You’re close enough to the Congo River that you can walk down in the evenings, and the main commercial areas are within reach without being right in your face. I mean, Brazzaville isn’t huge, but having that buffer zone makes a difference when you want to retreat somewhere quiet. The hotel sits in a spot where you feel connected to the city but not overwhelmed by it.

The room I stayed in was larger than I expected — these aren’t cramped European hotel boxes. The air conditioning actually works (you know what, that’s not always a given here), and the bed was comfortable enough that I slept well despite the occasional street noise. What impressed me most was the attention to practical details: good lighting for reading, enough outlets, and a bathroom that felt properly maintained rather than just cleaned.

Dining & Daily Life

The hotel restaurant serves a mix of Congolese and international dishes, and while it’s not going to win any awards, the local fish preparations are genuinely good. Breakfast runs until a reasonable hour, which I appreciated since jet lag hits differently here. The staff seems to understand that travelers need flexibility — they’re not rigid about timing or special requests, which makes the whole experience feel more relaxed.

Here’s what really sets Mikhael’s apart: it feels like a place that gets repeat business because it does the fundamentals right, not because it’s flashy.   Excellent location. Helpful staff. Breakfast was also really good. The whole place is decorated with some beautiful local art. The aircon and shower were great. Bed was comfortable. I would absolutely stay here again, simply for the atmosphere. It doesn't have that over-sanitized Radisson vibe, which is what I always love to find.
  
  What could be improved: I was told the driver would meet me in the airport at arrivals. He did not. I had no idea where to find the van, and I had to recruit some sketchy guy in the terminal to help me out. It was a really bad first impression. Also, I overpaid in cash when I checked in, and the man at the front desk was happy to never tell me about the error. But I take full responsibility for my mistake, and rather than make a scene, I decided to just let it go. So, I highly recommend you pay with a card.

  We had a pleasant stay here and the room was comfortable (and large). The hotel offers an airport shuttle, which is convenient. There was a generous buffet breakfast and free wifi We would stay here again.
  
  What could be improved: There was some confusion on check-in, which led to delays on check-out, but everything was straightened out eventually. The surrounding neighborhood doesn't have much to see, but that cannot really be helped and one can walk from there to sites like St. Anne and the Poto Poto market.

  The breakfast was good except for the coffee. The hotel itself is a decent building, but is surrounded by some pretty unimpressive properties – the same can be said for much of Brazzaville. It was centrally located, within comfortable walking distance of many of the main sights, restaurants etc. Having said that, taxis are cheap and abundant everywhere.

  The hospitality of the staff was awesome. I was upgraded to an executive room for free. The room was very spacious and had everything I could need.

  Everything about this was the hotel was just excellent, from the ambience to the decor to the friendliness of the staff. It was just great, however we didn't stay long enough to try their breakfast as we had to leave early the next day. Also, the location of the hotel is perfect it's right next to all the amenities.
