Walking into Le Centurion in Brazzaville‘s Bacongo district, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical hotel. It’s one of those unique boutique properties that doesn’t fit into the usual star-rating boxes — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it interesting. The building sits quietly on Rue LOUA in the Meteo Makelekele area, and there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the whole setup.

Location & Neighborhood Feel

The Bacongo district gives you a real taste of local Brazzaville life, which I actually appreciated more than I expected. You’re not in some sanitized tourist bubble here — this is where people actually live and work. The Meteo Makelekele neighborhood has that lived-in authenticity that’s getting harder to find in many African capitals. Sure, it’s not the flashiest part of town, but you get genuine interactions with locals and a much better sense of what daily life is really like in the Congo.

The Room Experience

My room was comfortable in that no-frills way that works when a place focuses on the basics done well. The space felt clean and functional, though don’t expect designer touches or high-end finishes. What struck me was how quiet it got at night — you’d think being in a residential area would mean more noise, but it was surprisingly peaceful. The air conditioning worked reliably (crucial in this climate), and honestly, that alone puts it ahead of some pricier options I’ve tried in the region.

Local Character & Dining

The hotel’s restaurant serves straightforward Congolese dishes alongside some international options, and I found myself coming back for their local specialties more than once. The staff seemed genuinely interested in helping guests understand the menu, which made trying new things less intimidating. Breakfast was simple but fresh, and you know what — sometimes that’s exactly what you want when you’re dealing with an already overwhelming travel experience in a new country.

Why Guests Choose It

Le Centurion works for travelers who want to experience Brazzaville without the tourist filter. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, and there’s real value in that approach. The parking situation is straightforward if you’re driving, and the rates make sense for what you’re getting. I mean, you’re paying for a clean, safe place to sleep in a part of the city where you can actually engage with local culture — not a bad trade-off at all.

  Està ubicat en un lloc segur, en barri popular amb molt bon ambient nocturn i a 10 minuts del centre. La propietaria és molt amable i educada, i s'esforça per millorar el seu hostal, bar i restaurant… ara mateix construint un pub nocturn insonoritzat.
  Les habitacions són molt simples, i tenen bona WiFi.
  De moment, només recomano aquest Hostal per a gent viatgera, backpackers que viatgen sols o amics i no en parella. La cervesa del bar està sempre freda, i El Centurion sempre té electricitat doncs disposa d'un generador elèctric.
  
  What could be improved: Al matí, d'hora, han posat la música del bar forta mentre les nòies rentaven l'establiment.
  La propietària ha arreglat la situació i diu que no es tornarà a repetir.

  All the people who work there are very nice ,and although acc is basic ,I had everything I needed .They also serve a nice breakfast in the room and they send a driver to airport to pick me up,even though my flight was 1 h later,the driver waited.
  I really appreciated that.It s also a very safe place with guard 24h .I booked 2 nights but extended my stay,definitely recommend this place!
